Daily News, Tue, June 24

Steve Birkinshaw broke the record. The equivalent of 12 marathons, 214 mountains, and four times the height of Everest in under a week. Wow!

A killer MTB race with a $1,000,000 purse (and a $10k entry.)  How would the ultra world respond to something like that?

Busy day at the URP Global Headquarters (ha!) yesterday. Released this podcast with Zach Miller and Ellie Greenwood, this Five Questions with Patrick McKenna, and produced a new episode coming out this morning with Pam Smith and Nikki Kimball.

And here I ask if ultra fans have favorite runners, like others do for the World Cup.

This video of the Table Rock Ultra in North Carolina looks sweet. (And who’s that band? Great song!)

Oh yay. Now there’s a black light run. I’ve got to get in on this business. I’m going to start a 5k and have aid station volunteers throw Spaghettios at competitors while others perform a finger puppet show of Minstrels Phantasma at the finish. Then I’ll profit, right?

The importance and fun of crewing at Western States.

And Ken (who’s running this year) takes the crew very seriously.

NUC: Hey, if you have a large breed dog, they heat up quickly. Be safe.

Get to know ultra stud Dave James a bit more.

What I hate about cyclists/What I hate about runners.

Will you be at States? I’ll be at Squaw on Friday, then Foresthill most of Saturday. Stop by the URP tent (down towards Subway in F’Hill), grab a beer, and say Hi.
