Freigeist Hoppeditz Altbier

Appearance

This ale pours a dark, dark brown with a tan and bubbly oatmealy head.

headSmell

Definite toast is there, but it also comes off similar to a Strong American Ale, with a nose heavy on both hops and malt.

Taste

Hmmm. Smoke is there, but it drinks similar to a double bock.  Definite hops on the tongue, but these aren’t California piney hops, they taste more “international.”  It’s rounded off with dark fruit–prunes and raisins stand out.

Medium body and medium carbonation.

Type: Altbier

Brewed by Gasthaus-Brauerei Braustelle in Germany.

I picked up a 1pt .9 fl.oz. bottle at Whole Foods for $6.00.

ABV is 7.5%.

Overall

I liked this beer. Very drinkable. Toasty but not too toasty. Hoppy but not too hoppy.  Big nose, but a medium body.  Great price for a decent ABV.  I’d definitely recommend this beer and would gladly pick it up again.
