Hal Koerner JMT Interview

Take two of the toughtest ultrarunners in the country, throw them on an epic trail for 220 miles with a ragtag support crew, add in hundreds of curious backpackers and some guy with a bunch of horses, have them miss an important boat ride, and you’ve got the FKT that Hal and Mike Wolfe set earlier this month.

It’s nice to see how the one breaking the FKT’s on the JMT realize the JMT goes from Happy Isles to the top of Whitney.

These 2 did an amazing job for the lack of preparation they did for it.
It’s nice to see runners that haven’t run over 100 miles tackling longer FKT’s.
For the longest time almost every runner that did anything longer than a 24 hour run has been in a class of their own.
Hopefully a few more speedsters step up and go for the big trails FKT’s.

I loved your interview this week. Especially liked the encounter with the a-hole horse guy. Hal tells a good story. The water purification thing was killing me though. Please…the next chance you have…please ask Hal why did they not just use iodine capsules?
