Strubbe’s Flemish Red Ale Grand Cru (Flemish Red Ale)
I really like this little bottle. While it fits perfectly in the Flemish tradition of sour, tart, dry, and wild, it also differs considerably. There’s very little fruit to it, very little vinegar, and very light carbonation, three things that really set it apart from the others. It’s got a great aroma and it’s pretty heavy in the mouth (probably due to the limited carbonation), but nothing jumps out and hollars at you as happens with other wild yeasts. There are very light cola references, and the sour was most present on the back of my tongue with a nice sizzle.
6.5% ABV in a small 11oz bottle. I think I paid $5 for it and would again.
