iRunFar/Mock: Justin Mock runs down the ultramarathon and trail running results from this weekend. Sabrina Stanley dials in her Hardrock training and Quest for the Crest, Liza Howard wins another 100 miler, and John Kelly is trying to reclaim his Pennine Way FKT in the UK. (Track John’s dot right here.)
He’s got a 3.97 GPA in high school, plays four instruments and wants to major in industrial engineering. He’s also blind (20-300 corrected) and just dropped a 1:56 800 an hour after clocking a 4:20 mile. Hell yes. Go get it Joel!
Sage Canaday lists the top ten “unbreakable” women’s records for trail and ultramarathon events. Good list of records I’m familiar with and some that are more obscure, I’ll admit. Of the former, the only one I can see getting bested is Des’ recent 50k on the road. It’s close enough to a marathon that I can see an East African grabbing it. (#7’s Kim Dobson’s Pike’s Peak Ascent is nuts…I’d forgotten about her incredible time there!)
Gretchen Brugman’s report from Silver State 50 miler. Haven’t read it yet but will this afternoon. I always love her writing.

Running downhill: How to train for it and do it properly.
In Twietmeyer’s 41 finishes, he ran sub-eight hours 32 consecutive times between 1982 and 2013 and sub-seven hours 15 consecutive times between 1988 and 2002. In fact, the only two times he has run the race over 10 hours were when he ran the race with his son Austin. “Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun to run the trails with your kids,” Twietmeyer chides, “but Austin is killing my UltraSignup ranking.”
—Andy Jones Wilkins writes about the incredible Tim Twietmeyer. Tim sits high on my hierarchy of ultra badasses, and not just for his accomplishments. He’s a nice guy who’s always ready to help in any way he can.

Good article on rice-based beers. Learned a lot, but now I’m curious if there are any non-alc rice beers. Anyone?
ultrarunning Magazine: Keep an eye on Preston Cates. A wrestler-turned-ultrarunner, this guy will be fun to watch.
