Ultramarathon Daily News | Thurs, Jan 31

Sarah offers relationship and sex advice for endurance athletes who spend a lot of time away from their spouses.

Interesting move that may or may not have implications to the MUT space: Tough Mudder OCR races no longer handing out cash prizes.

Here’s the reddit AMA Camille Herron did last week. I haven’t had a chance to go thru it all….anything good in there?

What’s the deal with the Nine Dragons Ultra going on in Hong Kong this weekend? Ian’s on it. (I’d add Coree Woltering to that elite list of entrants.)

I’m a huge Clash fan, so I read intently as Joe Strummer dished marathon (and life) advice:

“Drink 10 pints of beer the night before the race. Ya got that? And don’t run a single step at least four weeks before the race,” he said.
With the lager rolling around his gut, Strummer went on to record a supremely impressive time of completion in just under three and a half hours.

How did I miss this? A new 200 miler on the East Coast has over 68k’ of gain and saw 4 finishers out of six starters. Here’s all the info.

I’ll admit it, I’m the guy in shorts.

Someone told me it’s cold out in the midwest? If you’re heading out into the snow and ice, remember the GOAT Matt Carpenter’s screw shoe set up.

Speaking of cold, the Arrowhead 135 concluded this week with runners bearing -60 degree conditions.

And yes, it appears that Hell did in fact freeze over.

I still don’t understand what IRun4Ultra does/is (except “like” every Twitter post), but this video about Western States is pretty darn good.

Veggie recipe update: Made the butternut squash/cauliflower red curry last night (from ohsheglows) and it was awesome. Thanks again for that recommendation.

This week in science: The fatter you are, the dumber you are.

New episode dropping today. I talk with mother of six Amy Puzey about her recent try at a sub 3 marathon. We talk about what happens when training goes right, but racing goes wrong, the struggle with comparing ourselves to others, family balance, and more.
