Welp, I know what I’m doing at 5:56 tomorrow night. Can’t wait to see this (and can’t wait to see what she’s doing in ten years…ultras???)

A positive outlook is good for your health.

Yep, the girl who was carried across the finish line was given a finish. Not a great lesson to teach.

Running 600 miles across Death Valley? This guy is going for it.

Something tells me the lead up to UTMB this year will be a long one. Let’s start with some great footage from last years event.

What am I doing writing this right now?I got the green light to run yesterday, so I’m going to take advantage of that! New pod coming today. Stay tuned.

Was I the only one who thought, that while very nice, helping her to the finish was not the best choice but getting her medical attention was more urgent? Maybe the finish line was the closest place for this but people who posted it on social media seemed to want to make it an inspirational thing when it was potentially dangerous. Thoughts?

Jim Walmsley is running a vertical k this weekend in Spain. I must say I’m really liking how he’s chosen some more rugged Euro races lately, I guess to be better prepared for UTMB.

I don’t know. Are we trying to extrapolate too much from this? I had to walk my wife the last mile to the finish of a half once while getting every bit of water I could find to her after an unseasonably hot race. She didn’t die and it didn’t lead her to a life of crime or anything, I promise. She’s a pretty great doctor. Matter of fact, she even gave CPR to a downed runner in another race. Hmmm, I better check and see if HE got a finish…

But seriously tho, who cares??? She wasn’t winning. This happens at every marathon. Stand by the finishing line and watch. Why do we get bothered by this? It makes no difference at all.Reference

For your average mid-pack runner who a) isn’t near the top of any AG awards and b) isn’t aware of these kinds of things, DQing might be more of a headache and PR nightmare than satisfying purists. It may be a good time to point out that Boston used to turn off the clock at 3:30 and the timers would go home. They would advertise “this is not a jogging race.” Times are a little different, and a good many participants (I used to be one of them) don’t perceive these things to be and arent even aware that it’s a sport. Educating them would be nice, but there are probably better ways to do it.Reference

If the Love Run half wants to give the girl an official finish it really doesn’t bother me. But if she received an age group award that would entirely different.

    A learning/teaching moment. What of many scenarios should have happened? Seemed not to have an infield to cut across to med tent so then what? If you shoulder someone on their feet aren’t you being assisted as well? If you decide to carry someone across the line to med care, then what? Tell them the spot to restart from if not auto DQ? Should you even try to progress a runner in distress? Liability? Help runner to side of course and notify med or official?
    I mean, this is not a run to safety from fire or flood. Odd for someone to push a stranger past physical limits and in need of medical care anyway. Do RDs have guidance about this besides DQ accepting assistance?

Can’t wait for Allie O’s return. As a long-time Mt. Marathon runner I’m following her career closely. After her professional running career on the track or roads is complete I am hopeful we will see her move up to ultras. She’s such a talent. I hope her injuries are behind her for awhile now.

I’ve just noticed versions 4 of the Wildhorse and the Terra Kiger are available at RW. Interesting detail, while the RRP for the Wildhorse 3 is 120€, in the case of v4 is 110€. Is v4 cheaper than v3 in the US too?

    I checked in nike.com: 110 dollars before, 110 dollars now. That’s great value considering the price of most running shoes these days. I’m looking forward to the first reviews to see whether the new uppee is an improvement or not. The mesh does look more breathable, I hope not at the expense of durability.
