Ultramarathon Daily News, Tuesday, Nov 1st

Happy Ultramarathon Post Halloween! This is the final day for those of us who guest blogged while Eric was off in the Himalaya. It has been a pleasure to get the opportunity to do so.

Eric, as most of you know, has been completing the Himalayan 100 Mile Stage Race and on his return ran into the worst day in Air Quality for New Delhi. Ouch.

In Race News:

Javelina Jundred was this past weekend looks like Zach Bitter (Altra Running) ran a 13:30 to take the CR and Dana Anderson won with a 21:03 as well. Congrats to all the runners. I heard that it was sweltering out there.

On the flip side of the coin, it seems like drinking and overlty drinking at a trail race is being talked about by some of the folks at Javelina Jundred as well. With a sport as small as ours (but growing), when is allowing alcohol to be encouraged or consumed crossing the line.. There is a full post via facebook ultrarunning group with opinions on both.

Heather “Anish” Anderson set the self-supported record of the 800-mile Arizona Trail. She holds the record for three FKTS on national scenic trails. Here is her FB page.

Upcoming Races:

The USATF National Trail Marathon Championships is back in Moab this weekend. It will also be a selection race for the 2017 World Mountain Running Long Distance Championships. The winner of the men’s and women’s races will secure a spot for the August 6th, 2017 race in Italy. It seems like the field is really stacked and podium spots will come with a price at the race that’s for sure. The link is to Irunfar preview of the race via this week in running.

Shameless race plug: The flattest 100 in Texas is Brazos Bend 100, just south of Houston on Dec 10-11th. With 120 feet of gain over the 100-mile distance, alligators on the trail and a sub 16 hour buckle it remains one of the most popular ultras in Texas. Ultrasignup

Inspiring Stuff:

Cal Neff (Team TROT) recently broke the world stroller marathon record in 2:31 giving him both the Marathon and Half Marathon World Records while pushing one of his daughters. Check out the video of how it all played out and how running with your kids in a Thule can be fun and fast.

Guilty Pleasures:

Beer: It is that time of the year for amazing pumpkin beers around the country. Here are the 4 best voted on recently Great Amerian Beer Festival.

Candy: If you are checking what’s left from trick or treaters or robbing you kids bags check out the candy hierarchy for this year’s haul.  LINK

In passing:

It was recently noted via twitter from David Laney that, if he had his way, this would be the election ticket for 2016: Jeff Browning for Pres, Andrew Miller for VP and Dylan Bowman Secretary of Stoke. The hashtag #makeamericanfastagain was soon to follow. So who would be your picks to push the pace from our trail community in 2016?

Thanks again for letting me stand in for a night for the amazing Erik. I hope I gave you at least 50% of the pleasure that he normally does.
