Big feet…ummmm you know what they say………..cover more ground faster!

No really there are pros and cons. I think sometimes smaller would be better for being more nimble like on trails, but a larger footprint helps with traction too! Sometimes wedging my large foot somewhere it doesn’t need or want to go doesn’t help either!

Having Bigfoot – like feet is a blessing and a curse. Stability is not so much of a problem because they provide a wide base to work from. But, swim fins for feet can cause you some grief on technical single track. Like i said, it’s a mixed bag.

And you know what they say about guys with big feet; they need big Vibrams from URP. com?

Big feet maybe (emphasize the maybe) help with stability. It could be just me, but I tend to trip on rocks a lot. Could be the big feet.

Funny thing is that I used to wear a size 11 in college. My shoe size has increased up to 12.5 since I started running ultras about 5 years ago. There is a proposal for a new study – does ultrarunning increase the size of your feet.

OK big feet are definitely a blessing and a curse in running. Downhill running, bonus. Uphill running, not so good. Shorter races, awesome. Longer races, a burden. Keeping the 180 cadence?–not so easy. Ankle spraining on trails….umm, yeah, quite a possibility at all times. Sprint finishes, though, those small feet people don’t have a chance. Finding shoes? Good, because there’s always shoes still available. But not so good because they usually stop making half-sizes after size 12/13. But good because you get more for your money when buying shoes!

Having BIG feet is a BIG advantages. Let me explain. First, they alleviate the need for snow shoes in the winter. With this much surface area, I just float above it all! The second advantage of big feet is that, when I am airborne (since I run so fast and leap so high), I actually get an airfoil effect that not only keeps me in the air longer, but I land softer. Consequently, my running is so smooth that I will never have to worry about overuse injuries. The third advantage that I get from my BIG feet is that I it can give me a slight edge if there is a photo finish; my toes can get there first!

Just look at it this way, my canoe feet are attached to my redwood tree legs. It takes a lot of to lift these giant plodders, but I can finish western states in five and a half strides.

And smiles.
Hence, big feet makes my running an amusement for others.

My two cents (from a size 12+) perspective.

Pros:
–Clearance shoes! It’s generally easier to find our size.
–Surface area on sand, snow is beneficial.

Cons:
–I feel big feet hinder my downhill abilities by not being nimble.
–I can’t get compression recovery socks on. They won’t fit over my big heels!

Large feet are like monster truck tires, smooth rolling and great floatation. Plus I’ve never had feet problems, maybe it’s the reduced psi while running.

Plus no one in the family can steal my shoes…..

I have size 15 kickers and the biggest way my big feet affect my running is that I’m really limited in my choice of footwear. I’d love to try Hokas, Altras, Solomon’s, etc. but if I’m lucky they only make up to size 14s. It gets a little frustrating that there are only a handful of companies that pony up and create shoes in larger sizes. I’d love to be able to rotate through some different brands while training.

Nothing like Canoe’s for feet when running a Muddy Obstacle Course! Heck hit the water fast enough getting that angle right and skip right over the water while the little feet sink knee deep!

my girlfriend’s shoes fit inside of mine thus suitcase packing advantage. also, they are long enough to lash to the side of my backpack utilizing both compresison straps #carlessLiving #bikeCommuting4Lyfe

Having big feet and running is great. More surface area on the ground and less chance of slipping when it’s wet. The only drawback is having big feet means everything else is big too. Including my chest. My chest sticks out to the point where it is the only thing rubbing on my shirt. After about 6 miles down the road, the nipple rub destroys my nipples and they start to bleed. I’ve ruined more shirts because of bloody nipples than anything else. I’ve had my eyes on a pair of fivefingers for a while now but if you have any pasties like the strippers wear in your prize vault, I’d love a set of them too. Thanks! You guys rule!

Big is relative right…but after all size does matter. Can we take fewer steps since we cover more earth with each step? A great benefit of Big feet is having big steps that scare away he coyotes while running at night…or does it draw them in thinking I’m a buffet? But honestly it is just who I am, and who we are…which helps create a great mind set when running. It reminds you to run your run and stay within yourself.
