Earlier this summer, Zach Violett ducked away to Andorra for a month–his goal being a good finish at the notoriously difficult and beautiful Ronda dels Cims 105 miler.
In this interview, we talk about his training and execution of the race (he, ahem, negative split the darn thing) and he and I discuss what we thought of Andorra, the trails, and the organization.
We also talk about what it’s like being married to an elite athlete. How he and his wife Stephanie Howe Violett balance schedules, how they support each other, and what it’s like crewing and pacing your spouse.
Finally, we talk about bow hunting and Brazillian Jujitsu and why BJJ is the wrong sport for stubborn ultrarunners.
After the chat, I talk a bit more about my race in Andorra, my family’s trip to Europe, and a controversial issue that popped up while I was away.
It’s good to be back.
